Block of the Month Exchange

This year we have a new challenge for you. All the blocks will have a common color.
Every colorway will start from the theme color. Each month we present a block and
give you a colorway. You raid your stash or a friend’s stash and make the block
using the colorway. If you are making a quilt for yourself make a second block in
your own choice of colorway (you do not need to use the theme color for your
personal quilt).

The following month you bring your exchange block and give it to either Judit or
Jayna and write your name on the entry slip. If you make multiple exchange blocks
you enter once for each block. If we have enough blocks we will divide them and
award multiple sets. If you do not want to win blocks let us know and we will keep
your name out of the monthly drawing. We still want to include your name in the
occasional prize drawings that may occur.

Some months will have two blocks, each with a different colorway. Our intention is
to create twelve 12 x 12” blocks--enough to make a lap quilt—to learn some things
about color theory and have fun.

At least once a year there will be a drawing for completed tops—if you won
exchange blocks and show a completed top or quilt your name will be entered into
a special drawing. Also, if you forgot your block and missed the exchange for that
block turn it in at the next business meeting and at least once a year we will have
an orphan block drawing.

All the blocks are taken from the book “501 Rotary Cut Quilt Blocks”, copyright
2008 by Judy Hopkins. We have permission from Martingale and Company to
publish these blocks for one time use only in our Block of the Month exchange. We
do not have permission to use the blocks or patterns for future classes or projects—
that would require requesting permission for that project. If you love these blocks
and want to see more, please purchase a copy of the book.

Oh yeah, the theme color is YELLOW -- bright yellow, sunny yellow, lemon yellow,
pale yellow, prints…. We are not the color police, if you and a quilt sister call it
yellow it qualifies. You do not need to use the same yellow throughout the year and
you do not need to use a different yellow for each block.

We are making 12” x 12” blocks. This means that the blocks are 12.5” x 12.5”
unfinished. For most of the patterns this is the last column but for some it might be
a different column.
