FABRIC EXCHANGE GUIDELINES
  • Please use high quality/quilt shop fabric - all cotton, washed and
    pressed.
  • Cut each of the 3 fabrics into 6 1/2" squares and attach them
together with your name on each packet.
  • Bring the appropriate number of packets to the business guild meeting
in one large ziplock baggie with your name on it and give to a
fabric exchange committee member before the meeting so you can
pick up your "exchanged  packets" by the end of the meeting.
  • See below for swap calender and yardage amounts to create packets.

Each month the guild conducts a voluntary exchange of 6.5" fabric squares.  Each participant
supplies sets of three different, quilting quality, 100% cotton fabrics relating to a chosen theme
or color.  The fabric should be washed, pressed and accurately cut into 6.5" squares (no
selvages) and arranged into as many packets as are required for that month's fabric exchange.

The total number of packets for the month's fabric exchange is predicated on the number of
participants who sign up for the exchange the previous month.  A member of the Fabric
Exchange committee will solicit participants for the next month's exchange and announce the
number of participants/packet to be made.

Each packet should contain a square of each of the three chosen fabrics.  The squares should be
attached to each other with a pin, basting stitch or other device.  Please include your name on
each set of three squares and the plastic bag that contains all of the packets.  Bring the packet
to the next business meeting and turn them in to the Fabric Exchange Committee at the
beginning of the  meeting.  The committee will collect the packets, distribute the squares,
re-package the complete set of squares and place them in the participants' plastic bags.

If a participant can not attend the meeting, please try to send the packets with a friend or call a
member of the Fabric Exchange Committee member as soon as possible.  Participants must let
the committee know before the meeting, if you can not attend, but still want to participate.  The
Committee can not hold packets for you if the committee does not have confirmation of a
member's participation before the sets are distributed.

Most fabrics yield six squares per washed 6.5" wide strip.  The estimate for fabric amounts listed
above are based on a yield of six squares, but should be ample to cut squares, remove selvages
and square up.
